ThinkPad T495 and Windows 11: Is the Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U Still Good Enough?

A ThinkPad T495 equipped with an AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U, Radeon Vega 8 integrated graphics and roughly 14GB of usable memory is capable of running Windows 11 for normal everyday use. More importantly, the Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U remains on Microsoft's supported AMD processor list, while the ThinkPad T495 platform provides the TPM 2.0 and UEFI capabilities required by Windows 11. For web browsing, office work, messaging, media playback and moderate multitasking, this hardware is still practical, although Android emulation and other heavier workloads can expose the limits of the older four-core processor.

Is the Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U Officially Supported by Windows 11?

The strongest argument in favor of installing Windows 11 on this machine is that the Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U is not an unsupported processor that requires installation workarounds. Microsoft's Windows 11 supported AMD processor documentation includes the Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U. This makes the situation very different from installing Windows 11 on much older Intel or AMD processors that fall outside Microsoft's official compatibility requirements.

The processor provides four CPU cores and eight threads, with a 2.1GHz base frequency and boost speeds of up to 3.7GHz. Lenovo's specifications for the ThinkPad T495 also identify Radeon Vega 8 as the integrated graphics solution for configurations using this processor.

Microsoft's current requirements can be checked through the official Windows 11 system requirements, while Microsoft's supported AMD processor list provides information about supported processor families.

The fact that substantially older computers can be forced to run Windows 11 does not establish whether a computer is officially supported. In this case, however, bypass methods are unnecessary when the machine is correctly configured because the Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U is included in Microsoft's supported processor documentation.

How the ThinkPad T495 Hardware Handles Windows 11

Windows 11's official minimum hardware requirements are quite low compared with the specifications of this ThinkPad. The practical question is therefore less about whether Windows 11 can start and more about whether applications will remain responsive during everyday use.
